There are two type of marriage based green cards: 1. spouses of U.S. Citizens and 2. spouses of legal permanent residents.

Green Card Marriage to Citizen

Spouses of U.S. citizens are defined as “immediate relatives,” therefore do not have to wait for an immigrant visa number to become available once the visa petition filed for them is approved by USCIS.

Instead, marriage green cards are immediately available to foreign nationals who are spouses of U.S. citizens.  However, the process for obtaining a marriage green card can be very complex.
